Self Portrait

I have started entering some of the major art prizes and this was my entry for the Archibald Prize at the NSW Art gallery. It is a self portrait based on the Archibald fountain in Hyde Park and I have replaced Apollo at the top of the fountain but instead of holding a Lyre like Apollo I am holding an IPad and have sunglasses on. Both symbolic of this current age. The fountain water has become abstracted into a series of shapes and imagery from pegasus to warriors to nude women.

War memorial

This work is about the war memorial in Hyde Park. The sculpture in the war memorial was design by Rayner Hoff the creator of the holden logo. What most people don't realise was there was another more elaborate sculpture intended for the memorial as well but the catholic church thought it offensive and stepped in to influence the government and make sure it wasnt installed.So the work explores the influence of the church in this age on nudism - which is quite different to when Michelangelo did the Sistine Chapel. The work also includes imagery from the period with art deco symbolism.

Sandstorm
